Full Figure

Cross Contour Figure Drawing

with Jason Alden & Hanna Moors
at The Drawing Studio, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Cross contour drawing is a method of describing the human form topographically, with a feeling for mass, volume and spatial relationship within the human figure. It is a dynamic and highly tactile way of drawing that will also help students transition into working with clay in the afternoon workshop.

Figure Sketching/Modeling in Clay

with Kimberly Carmody & Helen Schmidt
at River Gallery School, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Guided by the principles of observation and exploration, participants will build on their expanding knowledge of spatial relationships and learn to "sketch" with clay, capturing the essence of the human form from a live model. Whether you're a seasoned sculptor or a newcomer to the medium, join us as we venture into an investigation of mass, weight, and volume in the human form. Everyone will be able to fire one piece.

Sunday, June 2
Portrait

Planes and Proportions for Portrait Drawing

with Cat Nunn
at The Drawing Studio, 9:00 am - noon

Achieving a likeness in portraiture is primarily about understanding the classic proportions and relationships of the features and how individual faces will vary from those in particular ways. Along with individual facial features, we will explore the broad forms of the head and neck in preparation for working with clay in the afternoon.

Portrait in Clay

with Helen Schmidt & Kimberly Carmody
at River Gallery School, 2:00 - 5:00 pm

Open to novice and seasoned artists alike, our journey will begin with a tactile exploration of our own facial features, allowing us to connect intimately with the subject matter. Working from a model, we will build on the morning drawing class to deepen our understanding of facial anatomy. Through investigating scale, proportions, composition, and perspective each student will interpret the model's likeness and have the option to hollow out the heads in preparation for firing.
