Sylvia Ryder
Sylvia Chun Yin Ryder is a multi-talented artist with a wide array of creative interests, including painting, musical composition for piano, gardening, and jewelry.
Originally from Taiwan, Sylvia majored in Fine Arts at the Chinese Culture University in Taipei. She contemplated a career in ballet; however, while this did not fully blossom as she had hoped, she did share her skills with aspiring young dancers as a teacher for a while.
Sylvia immigrated to the United States in 1976, settling in New York City where she lived for many years. There she raised her two children working as a pianist and composer. In 2006, Sylvia returned to her first love – drawing and painting. Using watercolors, oils, and pastels, her works include still life, landscapes, and seascapes. She also expanded her artwork from canvas to Tee shirts and scarves; each piece is hand painted – a wearable work of art.
In 2020, during the pandemic lockdown, Sylvia released three digital albums of her original piano compositions: Ballad of the Forest and Another Beautiful Day and Moon’s Forest. They are all available for listening on YouTube, and download on Amazon Music, iTunes, and Apple Music.
Whether she’s in her art studio, at the piano, or in the garden, her amazing creative energy, love of nature, and enthusiasm for life continually find multiple paths for expression.
