Peter Roos

Peter Roos is Professor Emeritus at Keene State College, in Keene, New Hampshire. He taught  painting and drawing classes there from 1990 to 2019.

As a former architect student, Peter’s earlier paintings were primarily about the story a space can tell the viewer. Working from photographs, the series, “17 Hedgeway Court” were rooms from his late Great Aunt’s house. Each one was a portrait of her! Other series, such as “Choice and Fate” explores the concept of the game “Tic Tac Toe”. The painting “Cross Roads” Is a large X and the painting “Pregnancy” is a large O. In more recent years, Peter’s paintings and drawings have become even more figurative and often incorporating landscape elements.

Peter’s background is primarily in realistic oil painting. He earned an undergraduate and graduate degrees from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Two years after graduating with an MFA in Painting and Drawing he was awarded a Fulbright Grant to study in Denmark at the Insitut for Kunst Historie. During this Fulbright year he was able to also work on paintings that were influenced by the northern light of Denmark and Wilhelm Hammershøi..
